Lucy’s first published translation was in the magazine The Interpreter’s House Issue 23 (2003) edited by Merryn Williams. Like all her translations, it was taken from a book given to her by her mother, in this case, Les Poètes du Chat Noir (Poésie/Gallimard, 1996). However, the most important books for her translations are two pre-War paperbacks, given to Lucy’s mother as a teenager: La Légende de Lalla Maghnia d’Après la Tradition Arabe by A. Maraval-Berthoin (L’Edition D’Art, Paris, 1927) and Le Roman D’Antar D’Après Les Anciens Textes Arabes by Gustave Rouger (L’Édition D’Art, H. Piazza, Paris 1923).
